White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Announces Senior Staff Additions
Today, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) announced three key additions – Dr. Marc Aidinoff, Kevin Lo, and Jenny Gao – to its senior leadership team. They bring a breadth of talent, experience and commitment to OSTP’s mission to maximize the benefits of science and technology for all Americans.
Dr. Marc Aidinoff, Chief of Staff
Dr. Marc Aidinoff has served as a Senior Advisor and OSTP Acting Chief of Staff since Fall 2021. An experienced science policy expert trained in the history and sociology of science, Dr. Aidinoff’s work has centered on the relationship between technology policy and social policy. Prior to joining OSTP, he worked in data analytics for OpenLabs USA and Civis Analytics. During the Obama-Biden Administration, Aidinoff served as the Assistant Director for Domestic and Economic Policy to then-Vice President Biden from 2013 to 2015. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
As Chief of Staff, Dr. Aidinoff will coordinate the work of the Director, and the divisions of Climate and Environment, Energy, Health and Life Sciences, Science and Society, Technology, and Policy, including OSTP’s work on pandemic preparedness innovation, algorithmic accountability, and ending cancer as we know it.
Kevin Lo, Deputy Chief of Staff
Kevin Lo has served as a Special Advisor to the Director at OSTP since Summer 2021. An early OSTP employee, Lo helped build every aspect of the office’s processes from the ground up and currently helps manage the execution of Director’s office priorities. Prior to joining OSTP, he served as a Deputy Organizing Director on the Biden-Harris campaign in Florida and the Organizing Director for Organizing Together 2020 in Michigan. In 2017, Lo worked at Brigaid – a start-up aimed at rethinking school food – as COO. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University.
As Deputy Chief of Staff, Lo will support Dr. Aidinoff in managing OSTP’s day-to-day organizational management and strategic execution.
Jenny Gao, Senior Advisor to the OSTP Director
Jenny Gao has served as Chief of Staff to the White House Office of the Staff Secretary since January 2021, where she oversaw the coordination and creation of the President’s briefing book and designed processes around information flow across the West Wing. Gao was also an early team member of the Biden-Harris Transition, serving as the Chief of Staff to the legal team. Prior to her work in the Biden-Harris Administration, she spent five years as a venture investor at Bessemer Venture Partners, where she led some of the firm’s roadmap work in areas such as climate tech, data and machine learning infrastructure, and consumer internet. Gao earned a bachelor’s degree Harvard University in Applied Math and Government.
As Senior Advisor to the Director, Gao will oversee and help drive the planning, organization and completion of complex projects across OSTP portfolios to ensure the Biden-Harris Administration is meeting the moment on America’s highest science and technology priorities.
Aidinoff, Lo, and Gao assume their new positions with OSTP as it continues to work toward the President’s charge to OSTP Director and President’s Science Advisor Eric Lander to refresh and reinvigorate our national science and technology strategy.
Established in 1976, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy advises the President and others within the Executive Office of the President on the scientific, engineering, and technological aspects of the economy, national security, homeland security, health, foreign relations, and the environment.
