Academic Programs at STS

STS has a variety of academic offerings, from undergraduate classes to concentrations, minors, and majors.

Interested in the history or social implications of your science and engineering work? A number of undergraduate students choose to do a second (a.k.a. “double”) major with other scientific or technical degrees. See the second major information page for more.

STS also runs a Ph.D. graduate program, along with MIT’s History Faculty and its Anthropology Program, known as History, Anthropology, and Science, Technology and Society (HASTS). This program trains scholars in STS research. Some come to the program with a background in science and engineering, while others have undergraduate degrees in the humanities or social sciences.

See the links in the menu above for further information on both programs and more.

Examples of Science, Technology, and Society courses can be found on MIT OpenCourseWare.
