STS.011 Engineering Life: Biotechnology and Society
Mon/Wed 1-2:30
Prof. Robin Wolfe Scheffler
We are in the midst of an explosion of technologies that promise to allow us to engineer life. What problems will society solve with this capability? This course approaches contemporary issues in biotechnology using the deep history of efforts to design life and their relationship to society as well as by examining how these developments have shaped MIT and Kendall Square— a hub of biotechnological innovation. Students will work on final projects on the history of biotechnology in Kendall Square that will be displayed in conjunction with the MIT Museum.
