STS.360 Ethnography this Fall is cross-listed at Harvard as GH708 Ethnographic Methods for Global Health Research. This joint MIT/Harvard course was originally planned to be taught at Harvard. Instead, it will be taught virtually (synchronously) through Harvard’s Canvas learning platform. MIT students can access the Zoom link through Stellar. Students enrolled in this subject are also strongly encouraged to attend the Friday Morning Seminar.
MIT students intending to take this class should only register for the MIT number STS.360 and should NOT also cross-register.

This practicum-style course introduces students to ethnographic methods and writing in global health research. It is organized around interviewing and observational assignments. Students develop a bibliography of anthropological and ethnographic writing relevant to their project, and write a short paper about integrating ethnographic methods into a future research project.
