Examines the linked histories of science, engineering, and documentary film from 1895 to present. In addition to historical study and visual analysis, students produce their own short videos based on archival footage. Provides opportunities to interact with both antiquated and modern technologies of media production and projection. Readings cover topics in film studies, the history of technology, STS, and material culture studies. Includes mandatory weekly screenings and media production assignments, as well as several short writing assignments.
